Local organisations have created community gardens and carried out litter picks
Community groups across North Lanarkshire have made improvements to their local areas thanks to the final round of grants from the council’s post-pandemic fund.

Friends of Hartwood paupers’ cemetery received a grant of £3000 to support their work in restoring and maintaining the graveyard at the former Hartwood asylum – where they have identied more than 1000 people buried there, installed memorial plaques and painstakingly tidied the neglected space. Kildrum community council used two grants to create a community garden and to run a campaign encouraging responsible dog ownership.
Litter picks were carried out across Motherwell, Wishaw and Ravenscraig run by the Economic Forum for Women Empowerment Scotland, a charity providing befriending, education and support – with their £2000 grant contributing to keep the environment clean and protect biodiversity while encouraging volunteers to make new friends.
