A Freedom of Information request has shown that North Lanarkshire Council has the most public space CCTV cameras per population in the UK and spends the 6th highest amount of money on them.

The local authority has as many as 1,310 cameras in operation across the area with a cost of over £1.2 million a year.

In Glasgow, there were found to be only 528 public space CCTV cameras with the city ranking 4th for its annual expenditure of £1,597,702.
