Three people have died and another four are fighting for their lives after a bus crash in the Whitsunday region late Sunday morning.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said the Bruce Highway was closed in both directions near the Wilson Creek rest area at Gumlu, between Bowen and Townsville, after a bus collided with a caravan about 11am.
The crash left the Townsville-bound Greyhound bus resting on train tracks, which ran parallel to the highway. Queensland Police Mackay district Superintendent Graeme Paine told media on Sunday afternoon the four-wheel-drive towing the caravan was travelling south on the Bruce Highway at the time of the collision, while the bus was travelling north.“From an investigative perspective, there are a lot of pieces to work through and we’ve started that process,” he said.Images on social media show the bus on the rail tracks .
“Motorists travelling between Ayr and Bowen urged to avoid the area, or expect long delays,” a QPS spokesperson said.“There are significant delays in relation to the train activity in the area,” he said. “For those people that may be using the rail, please take this into consideration in relation to your travel.”The crash comes six months after
