The number of cashpoints across Northamptonshire has fallen sharply in the past few years, according to new data. The Northampton North constituency area has seen a 27% drop since 2018 in the number of ATMs available.
The research was carried out to highlight the lack of access to cash faced in many parts of the UK. The Daily Mirror reported last year that thousands of cash points were switched off during the pandemic with many not being replaced.The spread of Covid-19 saw many businesses ask for card-only payments to avoid having to touch cash. However currency use remains essential for many groups, including older and more vulnerable people.
