Kerry Davies, 42, a former nurse, runs The Sleep Fixer and works with anyone over 12 months old

The mum-of-two, from Weldon, previously worked as a teacher within the pupil referral unit for children who are at risk of exclusion from school. She was later redeployed into a role within a respite care setting for disabled kids.

Her very first case was working with a little boy who only slept for four hours a night, which led to his mum having severe mental health issues and the crisis team becoming involved. Kerry said: "It was really, really difficult. "For example, I had one lady who was being disturbed terribly by her husband's snoring. So I recommended she start listening to the snoring and listened to her commute to work, which then prevented her husband from waking up in the night."

"Darkness and light are the most simple ways we can teach the body when it's time to go to sleep and when it's time to wake up. Having a bedtime routine is really important but I think sometimes it's over-emphasised. Other tactics, such as counting backwards from 1,000 in sevens or going through the alphabet, switch off the brain from anything that can be quite emotive and allow you to drift off easier.
