Both North and West Northamptonshire Councils will receive over £2 million in funding
The government has confirmed that more than £27 million redirected from HS2 funding will be available to bus services across the East Midlands over the next financial year- meaning both North and West Northamptonshire Councils will receive over £2 million. This is in addition to the bus fare cap of £2 remaining until at least December 2024.
As for the fare cap, that was supposed to rise to £2.50 but instead the “Get Around For £2” scheme will be extended to keep buses affordable and encourage the use of them. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak believes that the government’s support package and keeping bus fares down will “ensure the country’s favourite means of transport is more affordable for millions of people.”inister said: "Today’s announcement marks the start of the Network North plan coming into action.
A Department of Transport report suggests that over half of the respondents are encouraged to use buses again on the fairer fares which have cut prices down by as much as 11 per cent in some rural areas.
