The school doesn’t discourage technology at home for students and expects to integrate computers into the classroom for older students when it expands to high school classes.
COPLEY, Ohio - Northeast Ohio Classical Academy gets ready to begin teaching K through 5th grade students, promising not just a new school but a different school.
“What I’m very excited about is an emphasis on virtues and the emphasis on being a good citizen,” said Bill Altman, Co-Dean of Students and 29-year veteran of public schools. “Sometimes those first grade and second grade classrooms look like a big, huge rainbow all over the wall,” said Ashlea Bruno, a first-grade teacher and mother of some of the school’s first students, her third and fifth grade daughters. “It’s very distracting, very overwhelming for a young mind so my classroom will look a little bit different. It will be a little more muted and focused on the beautiful work of literature, the beautiful work of art.
“We focus on what I call good and great books,” said Dr. Baum. “That is, we really want to hit literature hard, in particular, the literature and history of the Western tradition.”
