Fiona Kingsley from Newtownards, Northern Ireland, has fostered 25 children over the past eight years, providing a loving and supportive home for them.

A foster carer from Newtownards, Northern Ireland , has shared the heartwarming story of her family's journey caring for 25 children over the past eight years. Fiona Kingsley and her husband began their foster care adventure in January 2017, welcoming their first placement in November 2017. Since then, they haven't looked back, describing their experience as deeply rewarding. Fiona, who initially worked as a nanny and in a day nursery, felt a strong desire to offer more love and care.

They have had nine placements, with the longest lasting for three years, and have also provided numerous respite stays. Their twin daughters, who were six years old when they started fostering, are now 13 and are actively involved in welcoming and supporting the children. Fiona emphasizes that while there are challenging days, the sense of accomplishment at the end of a child's journey, seeing them reunited with their parents or prepared for independence, is immeasurable. She and her husband treat every foster child as part of their extended family. Fiona encourages anyone considering foster care to research thoroughly and explore the possibility. She acknowledges that it's not for everyone, but for those who have the space, capability, and love, it can be immensely fulfilling. Their motto is not to say goodbye but rather, 'see you later,' reflecting the enduring connections they forge. Fiona believes that providing a safe and secure environment allows children to flourish and develop, giving them stability into adulthood. She hopes that they have made a positive impact on the lives of the children they've cared for, offering them a sense of security and belonging.Nuala Hanna, Head of Service for Fostering at the South Eastern Trust, commends Fiona and her family for their exceptional work in providing a loving and supportive home for the children in their care. She highlights their dedication and commitment to the children's well-being. The Trust encourages anyone who feels they can offer a similar safe and nurturing environment to contact them.
