NI team jets off on Sunday for FIPFA Powerchair World Cup finals

Northern Ireland’s Powerchair team are set to jet off to Australia on Sunday to prepare for their first appearance at the FIPFA Powerchair World Cup finals.

The players chosen to represent their country in Australia are: Scott Hilland , Patrick Cumiskey, Bartek Kuszkowski, Jason Browning, Carl McVeigh and Sean McKinney.They were given an official send-off at a special reception in Parliament Buildings, Stormont, which was attended by MLAs, other political representatives and Irish FA President Conrad Kirkwood among others.

Northern Ireland will then come up against Japan and the Republic on 18 October before rounding off the group stage with games against Australia and England the following day.The opening ceremony for the FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup is scheduled for 11am local time on 15 October. It is typically played in a gym hall on a 30m x 18m court. Two teams of four players pass, dribble and spin-kick an oversized football as they try to score more goals than the opposing team.
