Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles earned the plaudits and the Player of the Match award for his display against Brentford in the Carabao Cup
it has been a memorable couple of weeks for Northern Ireland international Pierce Charles. After impressing on his senior international debut the teenage goalkeeper was named Player of the Match in Sheffield Wednesday's penalty shootout defeat to Brentford in the Carabao Cup.
Charles made four vital saves to keep the Championship side in the game, which finished 1-1 after 90 minutes. Brentford prevailed 5-4 in the penalty shootout but the young 'keeper had certainly made a big impression as he finished with the most touches of any Wednesday player , as well as the most accurate passes .
“He gets his body behind it so well. And all game, just the comfortability on the ball, his confidence just oozed from him. I thought it was a really impressive, really all-round performance, and for me he was the Player of the Match.”
