The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind across parts of Northern Ireland on New Year's Eve, with gusts of up to 70 mph expected.
A weather warning for wind covering parts of Northern Ireland has been issued by the Met Office. It will come into place on New Year's Eve , Tuesday December 31, and will be in place from 6am until 7pm. The yellow alert covers Co Derry, Co Antrim, and parts of Co Down, Co Tyrone, Co Fermanagh and Co Armagh. An earlier weather warning for snow on New Year's Day was cancelled by the Met Office. The Met Office said: 'Strong westerly winds may lead to some travel disruption on New Year's Eve .
The forecaster added: 'Strong and gusty westerly winds will develop across the north and east of Northern Ireland. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected, perhaps reaching 70 mph in a few exposed areas, and this may lead to some travel disruption.' Belfast City Airport also warned of travel disruption due to the weather conditions and urged passengers to check before travelling. A spokesperson said: 'Due to adverse weather conditions predicted across the UK and Ireland for 30th Dec and 31st Dec, there may be some disruption to flights. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight with the airline directly or at http://belfastcityairport.com.'
