A woman from Northern Ireland, Jane (not her real name), has shared her harrowing experience of being stalked for six months by a 50-year-old band member. The stalker sent unwanted messages, followed her and her family, gave her gifts, and threatened suicide if she didn't communicate with him. He was later arrested, charged with stalking, and sentenced to ten months in custody. Jane spoke out to encourage other women to report similar incidents to the police.
A woman from Northern Ireland has opened up on the "mental torture" she endured during months of being stalked in a bid to encourage other women to report such incidents to police.
Speaking to Belfast Live, Jane shared her story as an updated police plan was announced which will see violence against women and girls given the same priority as dealing with terrorism. "He started coming to my place of work and loitering about for maybe the guts of an hour, he knew what car I drove, he used to watch my car come up to my mum's house but then come outside and start playing his flute as if he was going to lure me up the park towards him.
"When I reported it to police, they came out straight away and took everything so seriously. They said it wasn't on, as I'd told him multiple times to not contact me and he's not taking no for an answer.
