People living in a number of parts of the UK could see the Northern Lights on Friday, according to BBC Weather experts.
The aurora borealis could illuminate night skies after night falls tomorrow, May 9. Also known as the Northern Lights, many people aspire to see them, but there are certain criteria that must be reached in order for this to happen. When the incredible astronomical event does occur, your best chance of seeing it is to be somewhere with as little light pollution as possible. We could get a "brief" glimpse here, as in a new update this evening , BBC Weather said on X: "Next chance to see the Northern Lights will be Friday night. Sightings expected across Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland with clear skies.According to the Met Office, the aurora occurs "as a consequence of solar activity and result from collisions of charged particles in the solar wind colliding with molecules in the Earth's upper atmosphere.
