Government names companies who didn't fairly pay employees 💰

Three northern Lincolnshire-based firms have been named and shamed by HMRC for the underpaying of workers.

In North Lincolnshire, two companies are named. Delta Forest Pines Op Co Limited that runs the DoubleTree by Hilton Forest Pines Spa & Golf Resort near Brigg failed to pay £5,472. This affected 17 workers, at an average of £322 owed per worker. Barton-upon-Humber headquartered Wren Kitchen has also been named. It failed to pay £1,676 out to 16 affected workers, an average of £105 owed for each employee. However, reporters were told this was due to a technical issue concerning government childcare vouchers.

The company no longer exists. It filed for administration in 2019 and remained so until December 2022. It was dissolved in March. A spokesman for WH Smith said: “Following a review with HMRC in 2019, and in common with a number of retailers, it was brought to our attention that we had misinterpreted how the statutory wage regulations were applied to our uniform policy for staff working in our stores.Marks & Spencer failed to pay £578,390 to 5,363 workers.
