- Raytheon Co said on Tuesday it has teamed up with Northrop Grumman Corp to develop and produce engines for hypersonic weapons that can travel 4,000 miles per hour.
Hypersonic weapons travel in the upper atmosphere at speeds of more than five times the speed of sound or about 6,200 kilometers per hour. Thomas Bussing, Raytheon’s advanced missile systems vice president, told Reuters in an interview, “we will be flying in the near-term with that weapon.”
