The swimmer from Seward said she’s still processing her results from the U.S. Olympic Trials, but said “I’ll be back and be better.”

By Paul Newberry, Associated PressLydia Jacoby swims during the Women's 100 breaststroke preliminary heat Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. The darling of the Tokyo Games will be watching the Paris Olympics from home.“You know, I haven’t quite gotten there yet,” said Jacoby, who is from Seward. “I haven’t really processed the fact that I won’t be swimming there. I’m honestly not really sure if I want to watch my event.

The parade honoring 17-year-old swimmer Lydia Jacoby's gold-medal success at the Tokyo Games heads south on Third Avenue in Seward on Aug. 5, 2021. Jacoby said she went through some “post-Olympic depression and kind of feeling like my identity was locked up in sports.” She had to convince herself that she was more than a swimmer.

King won the 100 breaststroke Monday night, which wasn’t a major surprise, but Jacoby was also beaten by Emma Weber, who claimed the second spot on the Olympic team by 0.27 seconds.
