Christopher Hughes, who was caged after gunning down a Dutch crime writer, was targeted while serving time at Low Moss in East Dunbartonshire. The 35-year-old was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary following the savage exercise yard attack last month.
Officers are investigating the attack, however, no one has yet been charged in connection to the incident. He lured Kok, 49, to his death before he was shot eight times in the head and body by a gunman in Laren, near Amsterdam, on December 8, 2016.
The killing was described by judge Lady Scott as "planned and ruthless murder". The Record reports that Hughes had links to global crime organisations such as the Colombian drug cartels and Italian mafia.
