Dominic Devine was only the third man in Scottish legal history to be given a life sentence for rape.
Violent rapist Dominic Devine died in custody on Tuesday, aged 67.
Devine would threaten his victims with a hammer before raping them. The horrific and violent attacks caused many women to avoid leaving their homes at night, terrified they would become the next victim of the Ibrox Beast, who continued to evade police. It was her description of the attacker, who had also tried to strangle her, that eventually led to Devine being caught for the sickening crimes. A photofit of Devine allowed police to gather enough information from the public to arrest him.
The judge sentenced him to life in prison, making him just the third person at the time in Scottish legal history to be given life for rape. In 2006, Devine was back in the news while on a parole programme at Saughton Prison, Edinburgh, 19 years into his sentence.
