The parents of one of the victims of the Nottingham attacks, Grace O'Malley-Kumar, have criticized local politicians for failing to deliver on a promised memorial. Despite a pledge made by Nottingham City Council in March 2023, no progress has been made, leaving the family frustrated and feeling disregarded. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar, Grace's father, expressed his disappointment, stating that the council's lack of action is 'shameful' and that they have been 'more than useless'.
The parents of one of the victims of the Nottingham attacks say local politicians have been "useless" after no progress was made over a promised memorial.
"I don't want that at all. I'm not interested in that one bit, I want a memorial of Grace, Barney and Ian somewhere specific, "That's the only contact we have had from the leader of the council. Local Nottingham politicians and the council have been more than useless. They have done absolutely nothing. It's been shameful.
In the same statement, Nottingham City Council said they were in the process of writing to the families of the victims, yet Dr Kumar says he never received a letter. "There are no words to sufficiently describe what a difficult time this must have been for Barnaby, Grace and Ian’s families. Our hope has always been to work with them on taking forward a memorial. We will reach out again to discuss how we can work together to ensure an appropriate memorial can be put in place for the second anniversary this June."
