'There's a lot we'd like to do, but money's not being thrown around massively at the moment'

The Canal & River Trust has revealed that they are struggling to approve new projects and infrastructure on the Nottingham Canal due to a lack of external funding. Scott Miller, Business and Corporate Engagement Partner for the charity in East Midlands, told Nottinghamshire Live that between 2027-2037, they are set to face a '£300m gap.'

"All of these things are externally funded and as a charity, we already have a deficit for the basic infrastructure. We know that between 2027-2037, we're looking at a real terms £300m gap. Other projects put forward included a mural dedicated to Nottingham Forest at Victoria Embankment, near the team's stadium, and a mural portraying local legends Torvill and Dean. While these can't currently be seen along the corridor, Scott says this is something the partnership is still passionate about.

"We did look at doing it before the funding ran out with the Nottingham Project. If you’re not paying for it, you have to decide if you want it or not.A new community space along the corridor, to host pop-up markets and cafes, was also suggested by the trust back in 2021. Scott says this was previously trialled on the weekend of the Waterside festival - held at adjacent pub Canalhouse - a number of years ago.
