It's that time of the year again. Your favourite day. My favourite day. Christmas bin collection announcement day. For months and months now, Nottingham has been waiting with baited breath to hear the changes to when their blacks, blues, greens and browns will be emptied over the festive period. Across the city suburbs, dustbins are usually collected on weekdays, with which weekday depending on where abouts you live.
But over Christmas, binmen get the bank holidays and major festive days - Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day - off. You can't blame them, can you? As a result, collections which would've fallen on those days - which fall on weekdays this year - have to happen on weekends instead. The festive period usually sees more rubbish binned that at any other time in the calendar. Gift wrapping, vegetable peel and cardboard packaging will be in no short supply over the 12 days of Christmas. It's not just the bank holiday collection days that change, though. While the odd day's collection remains on its usual schedule, most others have been shunted forward or back by a day or two. For the full list, see the table below
