A Nottingham city centre road where two people suffered stab wounds during an alleged brawl will remain closed this morning. A police cordon is still in place on Wilford Street as of 7am on Monday, June 24, a day after a fight reportedly unfolded at around 4am on Sunday, June 23.
Officers closed off a short section of road between Castle Boulevard and Queens Drive throughout Sunday and are expected to keep the crime scene in place this morning. On the lengthy closure, a Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: "We apologise for any inconvenience," before asking drivers and pedestrians to find alternative routes.
Nottinghamshire Police previously explained two people had sustained stab injuries during the alleged fight and had been taken to hospital as result. The force added five men, aged 24, 32, 35, 37, and 40 had been arrested for violent disorder.It is believed the fight broke out after a private event at the I-Club, a nightclub on Wilford Street. Detective Inspector Lisa Jones said: “Officers are carrying out an extensive and thorough investigation to determine what has happened.
“A cordon is in place while we investigate the incident. There is absolutely no place for violence on our streets and we are determined to ensure those responsible are dealt with.”
