The previous operator of the trialled transport went bust in December 2023
The return of legal e-scooters to Nottingham's streets is still up in the air after Nottingham city council said it could not provide a timeframe on when they are likely to be back. The motorised vehicles disappeared from the city overnight in December 2023 after operator firm Superpedestrian went bust.
A new contract awarded to a successfully-procured operator - Tier-Dott - was due to begin on the 20th of that month. But Nottingham City Council pulled that offer within days, after it was revealed there were "discrepancies in the information" provided. When Nottinghamshire Live last wrote about the process in August, we reported that the deadline for procurement had already been extended four times, and that the authority has had to make at least seven changes to its own documents, due to various problems including the wrong formats being used and numbering issues. Now, at the end of November, the saga looks no closer to being concluded.
E-scooters were first introduced to Nottingham in November 2020. Users can hire the vehicles and drive them within the city boundary - not outside - though it is illegal to drive them on pavements and only those hired through the company managing the trial can be used.
