A Nottingham family has been living in a 'hellhole' flat for the past ten years, facing numerous issues including leaks, mold, and a lack of accessibility due to Andrew's disabilities. Despite being on the council's medical priority list, they haven't been able to find a suitable bungalow.
A Nottingham family were subjected to life in a "hellhole" flat where they were forced to use a lamp to light up their leaking bathroom. Andrew Matthews, 39, has lived in a flat owned by Places for People on Dryden Street, Nottingham city centre, for 10 years with his wife, 37, and two daughters aged eight and 10.
"They also can't install a ramp outside because it's a communal area and the costs outweigh the benefits. We live in a hellhole." But the flat's problems are not only related to Andrew's disabilities, as the family had no light in their bathroom due to a "massive" leak since before Christmas and until Friday, February 7. The light was quickly fixed following a request for comment from Nottinghamshire Live regarding the family's living situation.
"The leak blew the cooker up and we had to pay £320 of our own money for a new one a year ago. The oven also flooded and we had to replace that as well. Andrew added the family pays £600.20 in rent every month for the flat. He said: "There hasn't been a single penny of investment put into the property in the 10 years that we've lived here and it didn't look like any was put in before we moved in either.
"It's also ironic that the logo on the side of their vans reads 'places where people want to live'. None of us want to live here."
