Nottingham Forest are planning a renewed bid for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez in the January transfer window after their initial attempt failed in the summer. Gimenez's potential move to Forest was hindered by concerns about their relegation battle, but the Reds' impressive current form in the Premier League, sitting in fourth place, could change his mind.
Nottingham Forest have been given permission to make a new transfer offer for Feyenoord 's Santiago Gimenez in January. The Reds were unsuccessful in their attempt to sign the Mexican forward during the summer. Gimenez reportedly declined the move to the City Ground due to concerns about being involved in a relegation battle in the Premier League .
However, Forest have exceeded expectations this season, currently holding fourth place in the table, ahead of reigning champions Manchester City and behind Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. This could make Gimenez more receptive to joining Forest and competing at the top end of the Premier League when the January transfer window opens. Gimenez has continued his impressive goalscoring form for Feyenoord this season, netting eight goals in 13 appearances, including a strike against Manchester City in the Champions League. His father, Christian Gimenez, has stated to Mexico's Record that a departure from the Eredivisie club is possible. 'I think there was already some monitoring by some teams about Santiago, but I don't really know if he's going to come, but there is monitoring,” he said. “Santi has been at the club for two and a half years, the club is open to listening to if there is an offer, but well, we have to stay calm. “The market is going to move a little, hopefully it can happen, if not, Santi is very happy at Feyenoord, but yes, the idea is that he can leave.” Should Forest pursue Gimenez again?
