Residents and businesses in Nottingham say that parking by Nottingham Forest fans on match days has created a 'nightmare' situation. Issues with City Ground-bound motorists parking on pavements, blocking drives and taking up spaces have been reported down Trent Boulevard in Lady Bay . One salon owner said cars sometimes get damaged and supporters often get 'shirty'. The complaints come amid a ray of hope provided by Nottinghamshire County Council.
The authority said it would consult with the public and local councillors early in 2025 to 'better understand' the impact of match day traffic. Confirming new measures that had been planned, it said upgrades will be made to the Pierrepont Road junction to help partially sighted pedestrians, while cameras will be installed at Lady Bay Bridge and Trent Boulevard to address queuing in the box junction and illegal left turns from Trent Boulevard. “We understand residents' concerns about traffic and parking in Lady Bay and are working on solutions to improve the situation,' a council highways manager said. 'Early next year, we’ll also engage with Councillors and the public to better understand the local impact of match day parking.” Lisa Easton, who opened her hair and beauty salon Serenity Layne on Trent Boulevard three years ago, said the situation had been a 'joke' ever since. The 35-year-old, who has parking spaces reserved for clients, said they would often be used without permission by Red's fans. 'Some fans say ‘I’m just going to park here’. I say ‘no you can’t park here’. Sometimes they get a bit annoyed and shirty, some don’t care who they block in,' she said. 'One time I took a client into one room to wash her hair and when we came back someone had blocked her in and buggered off to the football. It’s a nightmare. Cars get damaged, drives get blocked.
