Hundreds of Nottingham Forest supporters were left waiting outside the stadium during their FA Cup match against Luton Town due to icy conditions, prompting the club to issue refunds.
Nottingham Forest is providing refunds to hundreds of supporters who were prevented from entering the stadium before the start of their FA Cup match against Luton Town . Approximately 1,300 fans, unable to access the Upper Bridgford stand by 3pm, will receive credit notes, according to Nottinghamshire Live. An urgent meeting of club executives was convened on Monday, January 13th following the significant crowd delays on Saturday.
Fans reported waiting at turnstiles due to safety concerns stemming from persistent icy conditions in the seating area. Some supporters didn't gain entry until halftime, while others missed most of the first half of the eventual 2-0 victory. They described standing in the freezing cold with limited communication from the club, with some even resorting to urinating in the street. One season ticket holder, who finally reached his seat 25 minutes into the game, shared his experience with Nottinghamshire Live: 'We were disappointed with the lack of information at the time. We thought the turnstile had broken. We now know it was a safety issue, so this should have been relayed to the stewards to let us know. The biggest problem at the time was people kept waiting in the line, but many were bursting for the loo.' He stated that while he hadn't received his refund yet, it wasn't a major concern given the significantly lower ticket price compared to regular Premier League matches. 'At just £15 for a match ticket compared to £45 normally, I'm not bothered.' Affected fans are anticipated to receive an email with a credit note, redeemable for future games or at the club shop. Ticket prices for the Luton Town match ranged from £5 to £25, according to the club's website. During the match on Saturday, Forest released a statement acknowledging the issue: 'Despite regular gritting ahead of kick-off, persistent and stubborn icy conditions on the vomitories dictated that a small number of turnstiles providing access to the Upper Bridgford stand had to be closed in the interests of the safety of supporters,' the club said. 'Thankfully the vast majority of fans were inside the stadium within ten minutes of kick-off, but the club wishes to apologise sincerely to those fans who were inconvenienced as a result of this issue. The safety and security of our staff and supporters is our number one priority on matchdays.' Nottingham Forest is set to face Liverpool at the City Ground later today (Tuesday), with the third-placed Reds aiming to close the gap on the Premier League leaders to just three points.
