Arsenal started brightly with beautiful interplay between Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard – who has scored nine away goals this season – down the right and the ball was fed through to Gabriel Jesus who almost chipped the keeper to open the scoring. And so, 1-0 to Forest at half time despite just 20% possession and two shots on goal. If the scoreline stayed the same not only would the home team avoid relegation but City would be crowned champions without kicking a ball.
Saka, whose form has dropped in recent games after a superb first half of the season, was through on goal on the hour mark but his shot was well saved by keeper Keylor Navas. Overall, the Gunners were simply not incisive enough and lacked the cutting edge in the final third. On a beautiful early summer’s afternoon Arsenal, who have now only won two of their last eight fixtures in the business end of the season looked tired and jaded, were unable to find the equaliser and simply fizzled out, and despite almost all of the possession could do nothing with it.
