Congratulations!
It was the battle of bhajis and bhunas as Indian restaurants from across the UK vied for glory at an awards ceremony dubbed the Curry Oscars. The British Curry Awards celebrated the country's top spots for a spicy feast at a time when it is feared the average price of a curry could rise to £30.
A rigorous vetting process by an independent panel of judges followed nominations by the public. Other local finalists were MemSaab and The Cumin, both in Maid Marian Way, Chaska in Lenton and Nuthall restaurants Lime and Nawaab Saab.In a video message of support, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “The thing I've learnt about being Prime Minister is that the best training I ever had was working in a curry house.
Personalities from the worlds of politics, sport, showbiz and entertainment attended the awards, which were held in association with Just Eat. Amongst those present were Chris Tarrant, Nadia Essex , Dr Ranj Singh, Merlin Griffiths , former England footballer David Seaman and partner, ice skater Frankie Poultney, and former England cricketer Phil Tuffnell.
The UK curry industry, which has weathered operational and business challenges such as staff shortages and the pandemic, now faces further uncertainty with the energy price hikes, the cost of living crisis and rising inflation. With spiralling costs, it is estimated that the average price of a curry could reach as much as £30 and industry leaders fear it could lead to the closure of thousands of curry restaurants across the UK.
