A Nottingham man, Hassan Al Khalifa, was caught carrying a Stanley knife at the Queen’s Medical Centre after claiming to have been attacked. He pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and faces a possible six-month sentence. Meanwhile, a 34-year-old serial offender, Zikria Khan, admitted to driving while disqualified and breaching a suspended sentence, leading to a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court. In another case, Stuart Beardsley was handed a six-month conditional discharge for possessing Mamba.

A Nottingham man was caught carrying a Stanley knife at the Queen’s Medical Centre after claiming he had been attacked. Officers found the blade wrapped in a cloth when they arrived and searched Hassan Al Khalifa in the early hours of November 8 last year. Nottingham Magistrates’ Court heard how the 50-year-old was at the hospital following reports made by the defendant he had been attacked, which was why the police were called.

This week, Tuesday, January 28, he pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article. Ashley Whitcher, prosecuting, said Al Khalifa, of St Mary’s Gate in the city centre, has two previous convictions for possessing knives from 2000 and 2011 and as such a minimum six-month sentence should be considered. Magistrates adjourned the sentence until February 25 and ordered that a pre-sentence report be prepared by the probation service. They handed him bail until that date. On the same afternoon he appeared at court, a 34-year-old serial offender from Carlton admitted to driving while disqualified. Zikria Khan of Cliff Road, has a number of previous convictions for driving while disqualified and dangerous driving, the same prosecutor said. The latest offence, which saw him caught in Carrington Street on July 11, last year, also saw him breach a suspended sentence order handed to the defendant at Nottingham Crown Court. On that occasion, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC reserved all breaches to himself and so Khan’s case was sent to the crown court on February 13. He, too, was given bail. And a third hearing in the same courtroom saw 38-year-old Stuart Beardsley, of London Road, handed a six-month conditional discharge for possessing Mamba in Sneinton Dale, on November 12, last year. Prosecutor Mr Whitcher said officers followed and stopped the defendant and found the drug on him. He pleaded guilty to possession and has 28 previous convictions for 64 offences
