A Nottingham pensioner was sentenced to pay compensation after vandalizing a car parked on the pavement outside his home due to his mobility issues.

A Nottingham pensioner, Robert Greensmith, has been ordered to pay compensation after deliberately scratching a car parked on the pavement outside his home. Greensmith, 69, from Basford, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Nottingham Magistrates' Court. The incident occurred on October 16 last year on Pulbrough Close, where Greensmith lives. He admitted to using a key to scratch the car, causing £640 worth of damage, after becoming frustrated by its position.

The car was parked partially on the pavement, leaving a small gap for pedestrians. Greensmith, who has mobility issues due to a hip problem, claimed he found it difficult to pass the vehicle. The incident was captured on CCTV, and Greensmith was identified and arrested. During his interview, he confessed to the damage, stating he acted out of anger at the car's inconsiderate parking. The prosecutor argued that this was a revenge attack, while the defense attorney highlighted Greensmith's lack of prior criminal history and his immediate guilty plea. Magistrates sentenced Greensmith to pay £300 in compensation to the car owner and £85 in costs
