A potential alternative to the now-scrapped winter fuel allowance is available to pensioners in Nottingham . On Tuesday, September 10, MPs voted to remove the payment from 10 million pensioners in England and Wales.

Alternatively, Nottingham residents can apply to the city council's Household Support Fund.The money is targeted at supporting "struggling pensioners, families and the city’s most vulnerable households" to help them with the increased cost of living. The city council is still awaiting the full details on the fund.
