Nottingham's largest cinema, Cineworld, will be closing its doors for good in February after a dispute with its landlord.
Nottingham's biggest cinema, Cineworld, located in The Cornerhouse on Burton Street, will be closing down on Sunday, February 2, 2025. The cinema chain announced the closure in a statement on Monday, January 13, stating that it was due to the landlord rejecting their proposals. \'After years of providing movie lovers with a place to feel more, we regret to inform you that, following the landlord's decision to reject our proposals, we will be closing 2nd February 2025.
Thank you to all of you movie-loving customers for choosing us over the years. We hope to see you again soon in one of our cinemas,' the statement read. \Those with a Cineworld Unlimited membership have been advised to check their emails for more specific details. Cineworld is one of the main brands located in The Cornerhouse, which is also home to several high street restaurants and bars as well as The Lost City Adventure Golf. \The news follows a difficult few years for The Cornerhouse, with its Skybar venue being forced to close in 2024 after a stabbing which left a man in hospital. Cineworld's departure now means that of the five levels in The Cornerhouse, the top floor will be completely vacant and the vast majority of the first floor will also be empty. \Cineworld's Nottingham branch has 14 screens and news of its closure comes following years of uncertainty over the venue. The cinema chain announced in 2022 that it had filed for bankruptcy in America and, in December 2024, Cineworld announced that six more of its UK branches would shut. Other Nottingham cinemas include Showcase, The Savoy and Broadway. Films currently scheduled for Cineworld Nottingham's last day of operation on February 2 include an autism-friendly screening of Mufasa: The Lion King
