The teenager also pleaded guilty to criminal damage and possessing a knife

A 19-year-old kicked a teenager and punched a vulnerable man in the face in a series of violent robberies in Nottingham. Nottinghamshire Police says Pharrell Renshaw, formerly of Teasel Close in Ruddington, has now been sentenced to eight years in a young offenders' institution for his crimes.

The first incident took place on June 14, 2025, in the Lace Market area, where a 17-year-old victim was instructed to hand over property and kiss his feet by Renshaw. The victim, who ended up being targeted by kicks to the head, handed over two necklaces, headphones, and his wallet and was left with injuries including a black eye, swollen cheek, and grazed shoulders.

Renshaw had carried out another robbery two days earlier alongside a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named. A lone vulnerable man walking through the city centre after a night out socialising was punched in the face by Renshaw and the pair rifled through the victim's pockets, stealing his mobile phone and the contents of his wallet.

In a further incident on June 15 the same pair punched and kicked an 18-year-old in Milton Street and, on this occasion, a bag Renshaw had been carrying contained a machete and a crowbar. Renshaw ended up pleading guilty to a string of offences including knife possession, the strangulation of a man in Waverley Street, possessing cannabis and causing criminal damage to a taxi and computer equipment.

Renshaw was sentenced to eight years' detention in a young offenders' institution when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on April 15. The 17-year-old boy was detained for 40 months. Detective Constable Andre Foster, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: 'Robbery is a horrendous crime that can cause real long-lasting damage to people’s lives that they carry with them, not just from a physical point of view but also a psychological perspective, too.

'Robbery, assault, and other acts of violence will never be tolerated by this police force, so we will always look to put anyone suspected of being involved before the courts. 'These are some of the most serious crimes we deal with as a force, which is why it’s so important that they’re met with a proportionately robust and thorough police response.

'I want to reassure people that we are determined to do everything in our power to bring violent offenders like these to justice and remove dangerous criminals from our streets. '
