Heavy rainfall continues to cause widespread flooding across Nottinghamshire, prompting over 50 flood warnings and alerts. The Met Office forecasts further rain and potential wintry showers, with major rivers like the Trent, Soar, and Maun experiencing significant levels of flooding. Authorities urge residents in affected areas to take immediate action and prepare for potential inundation.
More than 50 flood warnings and alerts are in place across Nottinghamshire as the wet start to 2025 continues. Some roads remain closed and aerial photos show the extent of flooding in some parts of the county. The Met Office says more rain is forecast for today (Tuesday, January 7) as well as the chance of wintry showers at around noon.
As of 10am, there are 28 flood warnings in place in and around Nottinghamshire, which means flooding is 'expected', including for sections of the River Trent, River Soar and River Maun. A further 23 flood alerts, which means flooding is 'possible', have also been issued for Nottinghamshire. The Environment Agency has urged people who live near the sites of flood warnings to 'act now'. It said if a warning is issued, you should 'protect yourself and your loved ones; move your loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place; move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building; turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it’s safe; put flood protection equipment in place; do as the emergency services tell you; help others if it’s safe to do so.
