High winds, reaching up to 49mph gusts, are forecast for Nottinghamshire on Wednesday, December 18th. While the Met Office issued a yellow warning for wind in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire has not been included in the warning. The strong winds are expected to cause some travel disruptions, including potential delays to bus and train services.
Winds of nearly 50mph have been forecast for Nottinghamshire amid a Met Office weather warning put in place for surrounding counties. High winds are expected across the county throughout Wednesday, December 18, and are expected to peak at 49mph gusts in the early morning.
This is estimated to drop off by the afternoon when speeds will drop to around 20mph. It comes as the Met Office issued the yellow warning for wind for parts of Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, which will last between 3am and 2pm. The government agency said "strong and gusty winds" may cause some difficult travel conditions in the areas but has so far not extended the warning to Nottinghamshire. People living in the affected areas are told to expect the possibility of some bus and train services being affected, with some journeys taking longer.
The Met Office added winds would likely cause delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges, as well as delays to road, rail and air transport. In its outlook for the East Midlands on Wednesday, it said: "Cloudy, damp and windy to start. "Becoming brighter from the west for a time with some sunny spells, eventually turning hazy as cloud and eventually rain arrive by evening. Maximum temperature 13C."
