Farndon Marina in Newark, a beloved boating destination, is being sold for the first time in its 50-year history. The Ainsworth family, who have owned and operated the marina since its inception in 1966, are retiring and seeking new owners to continue its legacy. The marina, with its 300 mooring spaces and extensive facilities, presents a unique opportunity for expansion and development, with potential for a holiday park, motorhome site, and even floating lodges.
The owners of a popular Nottinghamshire marina are selling up and putting it on the market for the first time in its five-decade history - and they say the site is full of new opportunities. Local businessman Mark Ainsworth established Farndon Marina in Newark on the River Trent in 1966 and ran it for decades with wife Janet and son Paul, who took over the business when Mark died 16 years ago.
The family are now looking to retire and pass on the reins to new owners for the first time in its history. 'Since my father passed away, Janet and I have continued as custodians of this incredible business,' Paul said. 'We have consistently invested in improving the facilities and customer experience, and have a fantastic team, who are and will continue to be great assets to the marina. 'We too are at that time in our lives where it makes sense to pass the reins to new owners. I’ve been contacted many times over the years asking if we would sell, and so this tremendous opportunity now becomes a reality.' Since opening in 1966, the marina has expanded into a space with site security, visitor facilities, office space and buildings where workshops and classes are held. The marina is still firmly connected to its boating history and has 300 mooring and berthing spaces for boats - but marketers say the site's future could offer new opportunities. A holiday park, motor home and the potential to introduce floating lodges are some of the ideas suggested for the site's future by Christie and Co, the agent overseeing the sale. The company's head of leisure and development, Jon Patrick, said: 'This is a marina that has never been offered for sale on the open market before, and that in itself is a unique opportunity. 'As a result, we anticipate that interest in Farndon Marina will come from a diverse range of potentially interested parties.' Any development on the site would be subject to gaining planning permission
