The person overseeing Nottinghamshire Police says he doesn't know when an investigation into how the force handled the Nottingham attacks will be completed. The person overseeing Nottinghamshire Police says he does not know when a crucial investigation into how the force dealt with the Nottingham attacks will be completed. The Independent Office for Police Conduct first confirmed in February that it was looking at the actions of officers in relation to the killings of Barnaby Webber, Grace O'Malley-Kumar, and Ian Coates by Valdo Calocane on June 13, 2023.
Gary Godden, who succeeded Caroline Henry as PCC following the May 2024 local elections, says the College of Policing review remains paused and that he has had no detail in terms of timings for the IOPC investigation. Mr Godden said at a meeting on Monday : "I have met with the families and the families are adamant that they do not want any involvement from the College of Policing at this moment in time.
"The investigation in terms of the IOPC is basically at the start point and so we will see how that manifests itself going forward. I would like to confirm a timescale, but the IOPC are still talking to the families. The IOPC issued its most recent update in July, saying investigators had met with Nottinghamshire Police and the families of the attack victims to set out the scope of its investigations. Regional Director Derrick Campbell said at the time: "Our sympathies remain with the families of Ian, Grace and Barnaby for their loss in such tragic circumstances, and all those affected by the deaths.
