Nottinghamshire Police has dismissed 10 officers in the past year for misconduct including misogynistic comments, record tampering, and sending explicit images from a police station.
Ten police officers have been sacked or told they would have been sacked by Nottinghamshire Police in the last year. Sergeants and a detective were among those dismissed in 2024 for offences which included making misogynistic comments, tampering with case records and sending nudes from a police station. Of 14 gross misconduct hearings held throughout the year, 10 resulted in the sacking of an officer - three fewer than the previous year.
Nottinghamshire Police were put into special measures at the start of 2024 following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). Chief Inspector Gareth Harding, deputy head of the force's professional standards directorate, said it dealt 'robustly' with those who fell below the 'high standards expected'. “By the end of 2024, we will have conducted 14 gross misconduct hearings for police officers and staff in a workforce of more than 4,000 people,' he said. Chief Insp Harding said lengthy investigations meant many cases related to years prior to 2024. 'Nottinghamshire Police expects the highest standards of professional behaviour from its officers and staff, whether they are on or off duty,' he added. “Those who fall below the high standards expected will be dealt with robustly, which can include being dismissed and being placed on the police barred list. Any future misconduct hearings will be posted on our website and the public and press are free to attend. “There will be some circumstances where misconduct hearings are held in private. This is for police staff and rarely for police officers in exceptional circumstances.
