The owners say they have the most supportive customers
A family-run chip shop, loved by locals and visiting football fans alike, has been named the best in a poll of more than 3,000 Nottinghamshire Live readers. Lady Bay Fish and Chips, near West Bridgford, just pipped Bestwood Fisheries to the post in the vote.
Despite rising prices, Kaman said customers haven't complained. "Everyone understands that costs have gone up and people have been very, very supportive in that sense. It's difficult, gas, electric, even potatoes last year were going absolutely crazy. It's a struggle, being in business. Right now is a lot more difficult than it would have been 20 years ago."
"We go down the traditional route. We don't do pizzas or southern fried chicken. We have an extensive vegetarian menu - vegetarians enjoy our selection. We have mozzarella, halloumi, spring rolls, samosas and veggie burgers. We do Linda McCartney veggie sausages in batter which a lot of people seem to appreciate. There's onion rings, garlic mushrooms and pineapple fritters - they are very popular.
"I have very supportive local customers but also customers coming from Radcliffe-on-Trent, from Bingham, Mapperley. They say they have purposely come to visit us. I enjoy getting to know the people who regularly come in. Lady Bay is a small community but it feels like everyone knows everyone and we really have established ourselves as part of the community after all these years.
