The Magpies' former Director, who has passed away at 76, is credited with helping the club on their way to the League Two trophy amid turbulent times
Notts County fans have led the tributes to the team's former Director of Football Sven-Goran Eriksson, who has died at the age of 76. The Swede, who led the team between July 2009 and February 2010, announced at the start of 2024 that he had a year to live at best due to pancreatic cancer.
While his tenure was largely uneventful, the Swede is often credited with steering the club through financial issues, most notably by waiving a multi-million payoff during County's takeover by former Lincoln City chairman Ray Trew. The act that saw the club narrowly miss liquidation and go on to be promoted as League Two champions that year.
"Rest in Peace, Sven." Meanwhile, @NottsTrivia added: "During a rough time of charlatans and conmen, Sven-Göran Eriksson stood out as one of the good guys." In an official statement uploaded to X, the England team said Eriksson is "Always in our hearts". "We will celebrate the life of Sven-Göran Eriksson at Wembley Stadium when England play Finland on Tuesday 10 September."
