A Nottinghamshire poker player has won big at a Las Vegas competition
, taking home over £320,000. Jack O'Neil competed in the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas, taking on over 10,000 others to place an impressive 15th, and win $430,200 - around £328,622.
Now Jack said he will use the money towards cash buying a house for his family, as professional poker players can't get a mortgage. He added that the money made in Las Vegas will go "a good way towards" buying the home. Jack said: "My plan with the money is to put it toward a house. As a full-time poker player, I don't have an option to get a mortgage, so to buy me and my family home, I have to be a cash buyer."This will go a good way towards that." Jack, from Kinoulton, first got into power at the age of 18 when he would play with his friends. He now spends around a third of his time on the road playing the biggest poker tournaments possible.
At a young age, he quickly realised there was a lot of money to be made if the game was played well. "I realised one friend, Sam, was winning when he played, so I realised there was a strategy to be able to make money playing poker. "It's the highlight event every year to play in the World Series of Poker Main Event. I look forward to it every year."
