Indigenous businessman and activist Warren Mundine has slammed a Dubbo Regional Council proposal to hold its Australia Day ceremonies on January 24 and 25 due to the 2025 national holiday falling on a Sunday.

Warren Mundine has slammed Dubbo regional council as ‘totally out of touch’ after it proposed holding its Australia Day ceremonies on January 24 and 25

Dubbo Mayor Matthew Dickerson said the change would give residents the opportunity to enjoy a long weekend. “There’s a convenience factor for our staff. There’s obviously a lot of work for our staff in preparing for Australia Day so, if we could take some of that burden away, it makes it better from that perspective, and the residents could enjoy as much as the long weekend as possible.

Dubbo Mayor Mathew Dickerson said changing the date of the Australia Day ceremonies would make it easier for their staff, allow people to have a long weekend, and deal with the"aboriginal sensitivity issue". Picture: News Corp Australia. The prominent Indigenous activist and businessman said that he knew Mr Dickerson, having served on the council with him back in the early 2000s.

“We brought people from all over the world and we built this incredible, great country and for more than 50 years, we got rid of all the race laws here, we bend over backwards to celebrate things. Why can't we just celebrate us being together."
