Twenty of the 45-hectares occupied by the Moore Park Golf Course will become a new central park when their lease expires in 2026.
The decision to convert part of a golf course in Sydney's inner city into a public park is about providing green space to local apartment dwellers, not "declaring war" on golfers.The premier said highly populated areas such as Waterloo and Green Square will have access to green spaceNew South Wales Premier Chris Minns announced on Sunday morning that 20 of the 45-hectares occupied by the Moore Park Golf Course will become a new "central park".
"We're certainly not declaring war on golf, what we are saying is that this golf course in the heart of the CBD which is already densely populated, it's a better use to make it a park than an 18-hole golf course." "It's a recognition by the government that given we are making decisions about urban consolidation, more units, more apartments, there's got to be more green space too."
"The golfers are not going to miss out, they'll still have their nine-hole golf course, and if that's not enough, there's a choice of another 12 golf courses within 10 kilometres of Moore Park."
