New South Wales firefighters deployed to help the earthquake recovery in Turkey have made their first assessment of the disaster.

52 fire and rescue personnel have toured the area to understand the challenging environment in which they are working.

The group is taking instruction from the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group, which is using state-of-the-art technology, including telescopic cameras, to view under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
