Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcomed NSW fire and rescue crews deployed to Turkey back to Australia after rescuing dozens of people and suffering through the region’s third earthquake.

During their deployment at the heart of the disaster in Hatay, the region was hit by a third earthquake on Monday which caused further deaths and collapsed buildings. Australia’s emergency response team used more than 22 tonnes of equipment to search 27 areas for people beneath the rubble, dead or alive. Four Australian emergency service workers coordinated all 140 international urban search and rescue teams, prioritised worksites and followed up incident reports.
