Internal emails reveal the Public Service commissioner was concerned about “inappropriate” requests from ministers for staffing appointments.
The NSW Public Service boss raised concerns agencies were receiving “inappropriate staffing requests” from ministers in the Minns government, including involvement in recruitment panels for senior executives.
“This includes a blurring of the line on staffing arrangements and also in some instances requests for ministerial involvement in recruitment panels for senior executives.” The concerns came months before former Labor staffer Josh Murray was appointed secretary of Transport for NSW under a cloud of controversy, with accusations minister Jo Haylen had intervened in the recruitment process to ensure his selection.after internal documents revealed she had pushed for Labor Party-linked public servants to work in roles in her ministerial office supposed to be apolitical.
“Howard raised with Scott his concerns to ensure Kieran adheres to the parameters of the scope of a DLO role,” the email states, after a request to extend Ash’s secondment from three to 12 months.
