DECLASSIFIED files have revealed that a Northern Ireland mountain was once considered as the site for a nuclear weapons facility in a bombshell revelation.
, then director of intelligence, was asked to brief Peter barry, then foreign minister, in November 1983 on the possibility of nuclear weapons being kept on the island of Ireland.In the correspondence between Colonel Buckley and Mr Barry, he complains that he doesn’t have “the monitoring or surveillance systems” to confirm the movements and surveil UK ships, aircrafts and support system.
