However, despite the speculation last month, The Manchester Evening News understands that Mendes was not an active target for the club at that time. It is believed that Mendes had verbally agreed to a new deal with PSG in December, with an official announcement expected in the coming days. Mendes is set to become one of the top earners at Parc des Princes, according to Fabrizio Romano. Meanwhile, Amorim, who has long been an admirer of Mendes from their time together at Sporting CP, welcomed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce during the January transfer window. United spent £29.5 million on Dorgu's signature, but Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damian revealed that Manchester United had threatened to pull out of the deal. 'It's an extraordinary operation in every sense,' the Lecce president said. 'It's our richest sale ever, and arrives at a moment where we are in very good shape economically.
