The director says the says the report ‘does not accurately or fairly reflect’ the nursery

A nursery has dropped from a ‘good’ rating to ‘requires improvement’ following an Ofsted inspection. The Magical Kingdom Nursery And Preschool in Accrington was visited by an inspector in June, who says the nursery needs to improve the sequencing of its curriculum and behaviour management.

She says nurseries are struggling with large shortfalls in funding, increased rising costs and recruitment shortages. Ms Saleem also says while she recognises Lancashire County Council have pressures of their own, the nursery is ‘continuously overlooked’ when they request support for children who need additional help and adds that support is often delayed.

“Staff are warm and caring, which helps children to feel safe and secure. Overall, children behave well. However, on some occasions when children argue and disagree with one another, staff do not consistently implement agreed strategies to help children to understand the expectations for behaviour.” Some improvements for the nursery to make in the report, including ensuring the curriculum is well sequenced and staff understand how to support children to continually build on their knowledge. Staff should also ensure they are consistent in their approach to behaviour management so that all children are clear how to behave, the inspector says.
